BALLADS, BURNERS & BLUES
Allen Vaché
Notes by George Kanzler
contributing editor, Hothouse Jazz Magazine:
A rip-roaring album that not only proves Vache’s versatility as a clarinetist, but also asserts the continuing vitality of creative mainstream jazz. Vache ranges from leading a sextet with a classic trad jazz front line of cornet, clarinet, and trombone plus rhythm section all the way down to drumless duo and trio tracks. And along the way he finds creative ways with arrangements and repertoire ranging from New Orleans classic style to New Orleans R & B shuffle, uptempo swing to slow ballads, as well as songs ranging from pop and jazz standards to a Mexican song and a chart-topping pop hit from the Sixties.
