I have concluded that the closest modern disciple and artist to Benny Goodman is Allan Vache. He is close to my heart because of his ability to go across my three favorite modes of jazz; New Orleans, hard swing, and American Songbook ballads.

This past year, I realized another dream which is to have a small recording label, Sweet Jazz Recordings, in which we get a chance to select artists who are both Jazz Corner friends and who play the music we love. In this case, it can’t get any better! Allan agreed to do an album at The Jazz Corner with two wonderful colleagues, pianist extaordinaire Mark Shane, and vocalist Terry Blaine. Together they have woven a gorgeous path through the musical styling in the heyday of jazz from the 30’s through the 50’s. Shane is a throwback to the elegance of Wilson, the energy of Hines and Johnson, and his own man, which is synergy personified alongside Terry and Allan.

Some of the interplay between Mark and Allan is special to say the least. Parts of this session remind me of the days of smoke, Perry Lee, and “Pete Kelly’s Blues.”

Quite simply, this is our proudest moment on our new label, Sweet Jazz.
