RED
HOT SESSIONS
Bill Allred
This is
the fourth album by Bill Allred's Classic Jazz Band and the
most ambitious of the first four. Performing many of the Matty
Matlock and Billy Maxted arrangements are a specialty of this
band, but arrangements by many other fine writers are featured
here. Walt Stuart, Scott Whitfield, Joe DeWeese, and Mike Arena
all have "custom" offerings, and the guys in the band
lend a hand with some arrangements, too. Many of these musicians
play more than one instrument, and Bill gives them a chance
to shine. Additionally, the band is joined by guitarist Johnny
Baier and bari saxophonist Tom Butler to recreate the authentic
10 piece sound of the Matty Matlock arrangements. Tasteful charts
superbly played, this band has lots of fire and energy. Appropriately
named, RED HOT SESSIONS is an exciting recording by a group
of superb professionals.
