This was Rick's last recording before he passed away. It is a magnificent sounding project; lush with nine strings, and yet, it is intimate and personal. Rick had always wanted to record a "strings" album, and Mat Domber gave him the opportunity to do so. It was recorded "live" in thestudio, with no overdubs, layering, or punching notes. There was not even amplification of the bass or guitar; all the instruments were 'acoustic'. Rick even sang his parts right along with the orchestra, which is very unusual in the recording business these days. Perhaps this CD is best described by Richard Hadlock in the CDs liner notes:

"With nine string instruments plus a full rhythm section behind him, Rick enjoys the luxury of simply caressing a batch of his favorite songs. Like Hackett and the great New Orleans tenor saxophonist Eddie Miller, Rick keeps melody out front, even while improvising his own variations. It sounds elementary in the telling, but it takes a seasoned jazz musician to honor the original melody without a loss of creative spirit and swing. The excellent arrangements by John Katalenic are not merely pretty musical wallpaper; they have substance and they clearly inspire Rick to give full voice to his singing horns."
