YOU
CALL THIS A LIVING?
Wayne Bergeron
I met
Wayne Bergeron quite a long time ago while he was playing
lead trumpet for Jack Sheldon. I was very impressed. “What
a hell of a lead player,” I thought. Later on, I was
happy to find out he was a fine jazz player, too. At that
time, a group of Latin colleagues in the business said to
me, “When we go to L.A. and we need a ‘horse’ lead
trumpeter, we look for Wayne.” And I said, “Oh,
Man, that’s my kind of guy.”
Over the years, I was privileged to hear Wayne and play with
him several times in different types of bands. I noticed then,
as is still true today, he always has a consistent and high
standard of performance, which I believe is the only way you
can survive in L.A. where there is the highest number of great
trumpet players on Earth.
Wayne has a killer set of chops and knows what to do with
them.
This album has been meticulously produced by a great friend
of mine who is also a standout elite L.A. trumpeter, Mr. Gary
Grant, who would never sign off on anything less than the highest
level of music.
I have heard this CD several times and I enjoy
it very much. The tune selection is so very nice and it’s
a pleasure to hear them masterfully performed by a person
dedicated to
an instrument that demands such an immense degree of discipline.
To the listener of Wayne’s album, I thank
you for buying this record. Sit down, close your eyes, and
enjoy!
Your friend and colleague,
Arturo Sandoval
